e-Sword X: Bible Study Extreme App Reviews

I’ve been using e-Sword for years. Wouldn’t be without it! Thank you for making it for a Mac! WAHOO! I am blessed!

Just switched to Mac from Windows. The Mac version of E-Sword is almost as good as the Windows version.

Truthfully this is a great product IF you prefer the KJV ONLY! It offers a limited amount of other translations. And what I mean by limited is just that. I can down;oad additonal language translations (Chinese, German, so on), but to get NIV is an additional $19.99, or NLT is $14.99 and NET is $19.99. So if you prefer on KJV this product is for you - as for the rest of the world…find something else…unless you’re loaded and don’t care.

I love e-sword and have used it for many years. It is in a class all by itself when it comes to serious Bible study. Highly recommended!

I am one of those apple users that rarely buys ANYTHING. This was a MUST have for any one who likes to study the Word. I have found it to be flawless in everything I have used so far. The ONLY thing I would recommend, is partnering with PHD (puritan hard drive) and getting those resorces on the application. That would push this thing over the opt for sure! Thanks Rick!

PROS: 1. KJV (God’s true word) is the stock text 2. Efficient, fast searches 3. Fast and easy set up 4. Affordable (Mac cost, 9.99) CONS: 1. “Editor” window’s formatting is wonky. Wish it were more like an actual word processor (Google Docs or MS Word). You get used to it, but at first it bummed me out 2. Commentary. The commentary option is nothing short of Scofield heresy and dopey scholarship, albeit the book outlines are cool SUGGESTIONS: 1. Make the Editor windows more like an actual word processor where you can more easily format the text. At least it’s WYSIWYG and there’s no surprises 2. Get rid of the commentary, or at least give the option to have BIBLE, DICTIONARY, EDITOR w/o the Commentary window

A friend recommended this app to me and I’m glad he did. I have used it close to six years now and have thoroughly enjoyed using it. I almost use it exclusively for my studies because of all the features (e.g., cross referencing, history, parallels, lexicon and commentarties to name a few). With SO many resources embedded, I can easily find information without having to exit the app, which also saves me times. In addition to having access to numerous free resources, the availability to purchase paid resources that interface seamlessly into the app (e.g., the Amplified Bible) is a real plus. The seven flexible view options are especially useful. For example, sometimes I just want the bible and dictionary displayed or bible and the bible, the commentary and editor. The app has worked flawlessly on both my ipad as well as my Macbook Pro, and even with iOS upgrades. I HIGHLY recommend this app to everyone, especially though who want/need references immediately at their fingertips!. A must have app.

I have been using E-Sword for years in the PC and now Mac world. It is amazing to have the linked references and commentaries for reading and research. The depth of knowledge presented gives tremendous opportunity for the Holy Spirit to teach us application in daily life. I recommend this to anyone that wants a deeper understanding of God’s Word and personal growth. Becoming a disciple of Jesus means reading and understanding and applying the Word of God. Continue your great work, as this is truly a gift to all. Love God, Love Christ, spend time in his word. Share the word that is in you in Love.

I only give ratings of 5 if the apps are nearly perfect. This one has so much to offer…it is the app I am trying to consolidate all my study tools into after several years of sampling apps on my laptop and iPad. Other reviewers have likely already covered the pros. I have only 1 issue with it: navigation to all the tools available is not so intuitive, even though I’ve been using the Windows version for probably 10-15 years. Sometimes the thing I’m looking for is in the next layer down from the icons and entry boxes on the main page…and I’m just not picking up those locations very quickly. It is the developer’s conundrum of functionality/ease versus screen clutter. I will say that when I get stumped, I’ve contacted the developer (Rick) and he is amazingly fast at responding with the solution. DON’T HESITATE TO GET THIS APP! The only suggestion I have for improvement in future versions is to be able to sync my personal topics and study notes between my Mac and iPad, without needing iCloud.

I have been using eSword for years. I made the switch to Mac 3 years ago and missed using it. I ended up installing CrossOver to run eSword (not optimal). I had forgotten to check lately to see if there was a native version out. I’m glad to pay $9.99 after having for free for so long. Rick Meyers is the man. Appreciate what he’s done. I have had eSword on my iPhone and iPad for a while now. Best Bible program out there. Thank you!

I am getting more and more used to esword and find it quick and easy to use. Highly recommend for those wanting a good tool without spending your kids college fund! Thank you e-sword X.

Loved this program on the PC, but the MAC version lacks the power of the PC version. I really wished the would put more into the MAC version

I have used e-Sword for many years on my PC. When I bought my first Mac a couple weeks ago the first thing I bought for it was e-Sword for Mac. You will not find a better Bible study app for the money. The sheer volume of resources that you get for free is amazing. The interface is good, clean and easy to use. I would, and do, recommend e-Sword to anyone and everyone who is looking for a Bible study and reference resource.

I love this program and I am extra thankfull that Rick decided to release a version for Mac! This mac version is still young and missing a couple of features that the windows version has had for a long time but I think we Mac users are used to that…. Mac always comes second. I know that Rick is working hard to make it better and he has already made incredible progress. With hundreds of optional modules, dictionaries, lexicons, etc… and so easy to use… why would I want anything more?

I am so thrilled eSword is now available for us Mac users. The interface is clean and easy to use, and it offers so many powerful features. Its various features and study aides are unparalleled. I would like to see an option to download modules that is easy, without having to use a third-party software. That asisde, I love eSword and use it constantly - definitely worth the $.

When I switched to Mac I was sad to see that there was no Mac version for e-sword. But here it is and very thankful! I must admit, I prefer the way it was in windows but I think that’s just a matter of getting used to it. Nevertheless, very happy! God bless!

I’ve been using e-sword pc version for many years. So happy to see it is available for Mac. There are some errors in Chinese Bible and hope user can correct it. Also hope I can sync all my notes on all my devices.

I love this app as it saves me hours upon hours of time while studying. While there is always room for improvement, one area I would like to see a change in is the downloading of the other features. It is slow and tedius to have to wait for each one to download before starting the next download. A better option would be to check all the books that I want and then start them all at once. Otherwise a very solid program with tons of great features! Highly reccomneded!
